Everlasting Life

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Everlasting life: What is it? What does it mean to have everlasting life?

It does seem simple enough that to have everlasting life means that you will live forever. It is to spend eternity with God in heaven. But, is it free to have? Don’t I have to do something for it? Maybe work hard at being a good person; perhaps say a number of prayers per day; or maybe one needs to be a good giver – the more you give to the poor, the more God will accept you and you will spend eternity with Him in heaven. It is absolutely not received by any of the above. You cannot work for your salvation. It is a free gift from Almighty God to everyone who believes in His Son.

Everlasting life cannot be gotten by good works or piety. It is received by faith in Christ Jesus. There is no other way to have everlasting life, but to receive it by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, died on the cross for your sins and rose again from the dead; and to make Him your personal Lord and Saviour.

When do I receive everlasting life? The exact moment that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. It begins to operate in you at that very moment.

Jesus said in John 10:10, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

He means that He came to give you life in all its fullness. And it is not death, but life. Do you realize that life in the world is death? The world is still in a fallen and cursed sate. But the Kingdom of God is living and full of life. This is what you have received- life!

In the kingdom of God there is life in abundance. The problem is that most people try to find their “life” in the world when all along it is in the Kingdom of God. If you seek for joy, peace, happiness, pleasure and everything that is good and proper in the world, you will not find it. You will continue to seek for it to the day you die, and you will never find it. True joy, happiness and peace are found in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus said in Mathew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” I want you to realize something. When Jesus spoke these words, he was speaking to Jews. The Jewish people found their righteousness in fulfilling the Law, which they could not fulfill. Therefore, Jesus taught them to seek for the Kingdom of God and His righteous, which is only found in Christ Jesus.

However, the moment you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, you entered into the Kingdom of God. Hallelujah!

Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life." Jesus is the only way to heaven. He is the only way to the Father. You cannot go to God the Father unless you come to Him in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ.  You cannot come to God the Father in let’s say in the name of Peter.

Jesus said in John 14:13, “Whatsoever you ask in My name, that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” You cannot ask Peter or Paul or James or anyone else, to ask the Father or to ask Jesus to do something for you. It is wrong! It is not what the Bible teaches. You must come directly to Father God in the name of Jesus. That is what it means to be and live in the Kingdom of God.

Do you remember how Jesus taught His disciples to pray? “Our Father, who art in heaven…” Who are we coming to? The Father! And how do we approach Him? In the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. We go to no one else to ask for anything. And we go to God the Father in no other name but the name, Jesus Christ.

To conclude: Everlasting life is a gift of God; it is received by faith in Jesus Christ; and it begins the moment you accept Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.

If you have never received Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you can do it right now. Just follow this link in my website: http://livingaboveandbeyond.com/Live_Your_Purpose.htm And please let me know that you did. God bless you.
